Shore Leave

Once their ship has docked at a port, many will often attempt to take some shore leave for a limited number of hours

Securing shore leave has become increasingly difficult for seafarers due to tighter port schedules, faster turnaround times, and limited transportation from remote port locations. Even when time allows, strict visa rules and accessibility challenges often prevent crews from stepping ashore, leaving many without vital rest, connection, and relief from life at sea.

We help by advocating for fairer access to shore leave, providing transport to and from ports, and offering welcoming Seafarers’ Centres often located right inside port gates. When seafarers can’t get ashore, our chaplains bring practical support, companionship, and care directly on board, ensuring crews are never left without connection or comfort.
