Bud Streeter recently retired after a distinguished 50-year career in the marine industry, bringing a wealth of experience in maritime safety, engineering, and executive leadership. A 1973 graduate of the Canadian Coast Guard College, Bud began his career as an Engineering Officer, serving aboard various ships and eventually rising to the rank of Chief Engineer. He later became an Instructor at the Coast Guard College and held roles as a Marine Safety Surveyor, Examiner, and Manager in multiple Canadian offices.

Bud’s extensive career includes executive positions with Marine Atlantic Inc., Transport Canada, where he served as Director General of Marine Safety,and Lloyd’s Register Inc., where he held senior leadership roles. He also represented Canada as head of delegations to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

He has served on the boards of Meridian Shipping Limited and various Lloyd’s Register entities, and was appointed to the Canadian Advisory Council on National Security, serving as a marine security advisor from 2005 to 2009.

In 2013, Bud received the inaugural Medal of Excellence from the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering (CIMarE). He later served as Chair of the Board for Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping, a national research centre dedicated to safe and sustainable marine shipping in Canada.

Today, Bud remains deeply engaged in the sector as Honorary President of CIMarE, Chair of Mission to Seafarers Halifax, and Chair of Mission to Seafarers Canada. He also serves as a volunteer ship welfare visitor, providing care and support to international seafarers arriving in Halifax.
